BURLINGTON, VT – 1% for the Planet wrapped up a record-breaking first half to 2018 adding 338 new members to their global movement.
“Over 92% of consumers say they have a more positive image of a brand when the company supports a social or environmental issue, and there is a $1.2 billion opportunity for businesses who take action on the environment, ” said Kate Williams, 1% for the Planet’s CEO. “This rapid growth in businesses giving back to the environment shows that consumers want to purchase for the planet, and brands are responding to that demand.”
Of the 338 new members, over 43% are international, and they represent a broad range of sectors including finance, outdoor & biking, food & beverage and health & beauty.
“The message from an ever-growing number of businesses around the globe could not be more clear, now is the time for action on the environment,” Williams said.
One region 1% for the Planet has seen significant growth is in the United Kingdom. Two Degrees, a UK based footwear company, a became one of the 100+ UK Businesses to join the global movement.
“We’re so excited to join a global movement of businesses and individuals that share our commitment to protecting the planet. It’s awesome to see the network growing so fast in the UK, and we hope that trend continues.”
There is also growing interest in 1% for the Planet from the bike industry. Velocio, a New Hampshire based bike apparel brand joined in the network in January, and they partner with the Conservation Alliance to help protect wild and scenic lands.
“Of the outdoor sports, cycling is late to the party with a cultural ethic of sustainability and social responsibility,” Velocio said in a blog post announcing their 1% for the Planet membership. “We’re proud to see change happening in cycling and proud to be at the vanguard of that change.”
