MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (Sept. 5, 2019) — Middlebury-based Bee’s Wrap brought home kudos in early September from the B Lab, earning the 2019 Best For The World: Environment award for the business’s top-notch attention to environmental stewardship.
Bee’s Wrap, a Certified B Corporation, is one of three Vermont businesses to earn this honor, alongside Seventh Generation and SunCommon. Granted by the B Lab, the global nonprofit that certifies and supports Certified B Corporations, the award honors B Corp members who are taking bold action to preserve our planet’s most precious resources. These companies consider the impact of their everyday footprint, including energy usage, materials, facilities, supply chain, and more.
In order to earn the award, companies needed to score in the top 10 percent of all Certified B Corps in the Environment category of the B Impact Assessment. This section evaluates a company’s environmental performance, and measures whether a company’s products or services are designed to solve an environmental issue.
“We carefully consider the environmental impact of everything we do at Bee’s Wrap, from sourcing materials to the way our workshop operates and beyond. We’re pushing back on plastic waste with intentional, simple food storage solutions, and we pride ourselves on helping our customers embrace reusable goods, one kitchen at a time,” said Bee’s Wrap Founder and CEO Sarah Kaeck. “It’s an honor to have that hard work recognized by the B Lab, and to be among such good company with these award winners.”
Based in Middlebury, Bee’s Wrap makes reusable food storage wraps designed to replace plastic wrap.
Roughly 3,000 businesses worldwide have earned the rigorous B Corp certification; today, B Corps exist in 64 countries and 150 industries. B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service, it assesses the overall positive impact of the company that stands behind it.
“We’re incredibly proud of this year’s Best For The World honorees,” says Anthea Kelsick, Chief Marketing Officer of B Lab. “These inspiring companies represent the kinds of business models and impact-driven business strategies that are building a new economy — one that is inclusive, regenerative, and delivers value to all stakeholders, not just shareholders.”
One thousand B Corps from 44 countries were named to the 2019 Best For The World lists, including Patagonia, Beautycounter, Dr. Bronner’s, and TOMS. The 2019 Best For The World honorees are determined based on the verified B Impact Assessments of Certified B Corporations. The full lists are available on https://bcorporation.net/.
